The first half was going as planned, but Benevento had a few chances and one could sense that a goal was coming after a few missed opportunities. Finally, D'Alessandro found the back of the net in a counter attack that left Inter's defense exposed despite the scenario being a 4v2. Benevento finished the first half on a good note.
One would expect a better half from Inter after conceding to a team that has never won a match and scored 2 goals in their Serie A debut. However, Spalletti's side had other plans. The midfield looked tired, defense looked shaky, Icardi was nowhere to be seen and overall Benevento had over 5 goal scoring opportunities. Spalletti decided to sub off a very bad Candreva for Joao Mario who played out of position on the right flank and that improved the attack but left the right flank exposed for Benevento to counter. Gagliardini and Dalbert also came on minutes later - Roberto was good, Dalbert was not.
Despite Inter having position, the team passed the ball around with no purpose as the commentator kept pointing out, 'Inter are slow'. Perisic was the only player that seemed to care one bit about grabbing the 3 points. He was all over the place covering the gaps and helping the defense as well as creating many chances for Icardi - easily tonight's Man of The Match.
